Better quality of life, freedom to explore new cities, and no morning rush hour? It’s easy to understand the allure of becoming a digital nomad — especially with how easy coworking spaces make it to find an office while you travel.

What are the best digital nomad cities, though? A remote location might sound great for getting away, but you also need stable internet. A big city is ideal, but your safety is also paramount.

Luckily, we’re here to help you learn the lay of the land. Read on to learn about 12 of 2024’s best digital nomad hubs in the US.

1. Austin, TX

One of two tech hubs in the Lone Star State, Austin is an excellent choice for digital nomads. As one of the fastest-growing metros in the country, you can count on there always being something to experience.

Austin is also known as the live music capital of the world, playing host annually to renowned music festivals like Austin City Limits and SXSW. You don’t have to plan an entire weekend to catch a show, though. A stroll through downtown is all it takes to find a good show at a local bar almost any night of the week.

Luckily, our two downtown locations (Industrious 5th and Colorado and Industrious 3rd and Congress) provide easy access, plus everything you need to get through the workday.

2. New York, NY

New York City is by far one of the best digital nomad cities. With world-famous attractions and quiet hideaways spread throughout the boroughs, striking a balance between wide-eyed tourist and seasoned local is easier than you might think.

It’s not a city for the faint of heart, but the welcoming locals and wide variety of neighborhoods mean you won’t be strapped to the skyscrapers of Manhattan for both work and play.

Whether you want to work in the thick of the Financial District at Industrious Wall Street or bring your dog along to Industrious Brooklyn, we have more than 15 locations in the city to fit whatever vibe you need to get through those afternoon meetings.

3. Seattle, WA

Part bustling tech hub, part outdoor oasis, Seattle is by far one of the best cities for digital nomads in the USA.

Our coworking spaces offer unlimited craft coffee, but even we must admit that Seattle’s coffee scene is too tempting to pass up. Coffee shops that also serve alcohol aren’t a rarity throughout the city, though, so finding a place to stop after you’ve fueled up at Industrious Downtown Seattle is the perfect way to unwind after work.

4. Denver, CO

Living the digital nomad lifestyle in the Mile High City is a must. This bustling city has excellent public transit and an extensive network of bike lanes and trails. Getting to work at Industrious Central Business District is easy, even without a car. We also have bike storage or easy access to a BCycle station nearby, and we’re just a short walk away from the shops of historic Larimer Square.

On the weekends, you’ll have easy access to the globally-known Red Rocks Amphitheatre for live shows and Empower Field for Broncos games. If you’d rather get to know the city’s arts scene, check out the River North Art District.

5. Atlanta, GA

Did you know Atlanta has been named the best city for remote workers? The city’s Southern charm, fast internet connections, and abundant coworking spaces make it a great place to settle in as a digital nomad. We have nine locations in Atlanta alone, spanning from downtown to Perimeter 7000 Central Parkway.

The city is a hotspot for film and TV production (everything from Marvel movies to the Netflix hit Stranger Things), and NPR has called it the “center of the rap universe.” You’re right in the middle of a lot of hustle and bustle, but you won’t miss out on Southern hospitality. It’s just as engrained in the city’s culture as music is, and it’s a great place to go if you love art and meeting new people.

6. Miami, FL

Life as a digital nomad in Miami comes with the beauty of Florida’s beaches, a vibrant nightlife to experience, and a great culture to help you soak it all in. If you’re not one for cold winters in the snowy north, Miami’s warmth will be great for you with winter events like the city’s Art Deco Weekend and GroundUP Music Festival.

When placed alongside the state’s east coast sunrises and its proximity to the wildlife of the Everglades, coworking from the likes of Industrious Miami Beach and Industrious Wynwood is a must-do.

7. Chicago, IL

With a cost of living just 5.7 percent above the national average, Chicago is among the cheapest of the bustling metros on this list. That, plus access to public transit and local pride that makes game day at Wrigley Field a must-attend, proves Chicago is a great city to stay in as a digital nomad.

Industrious Millennium Park makes it easy to explore The Loop between meetings throughout the week. A morning visit to the small shops among the brownstones in Andersonville followed by sunset at one of the beaches along Lake Michigan will give you a taste of what locals love most about the Windy City.

8. Los Angeles, CA

The creatives and show biz professionals that live in Los Angeles have long made the city a space for unconventional workdays. You’ll find an abundance of coworking spaces throughout LA and an equal amount of people filling them during all times of day, from writers taking up cozy corners of their lounges to attorneys popping in for their afternoon meetings. Industrious Playa District is also dog-friendly, so you can bring your pet to work or find a new furry friend to hang out with.

The city’s natural diversity also makes it easy to adventure. A morning hike in Griffith Park, an afternoon of surfing in Venice Beach, or even a beachside bonfire after sunset in Santa Monica are all perfect ways to unwind, whether you’re a morning worker or a night owl.

9. San Francisco, CA

Less than an hour from Silicon Valley, San Francisco’s digital nomad community has long thrived. Mornings spent walking the Presidio followed up by an evening of bouldering at a local climbing gym is pretty typical in San Fran, and coworking among the earthy tones found at Industrious Concord 2001 Clayton and Industrious San Francisco Financial District makes it a lot easier to enjoy your time there.

Both locations boast easy access to BART stations, making accessing any part of the city easy.

10. Houston, TX

The Lone Star State’s second tech hub on our list, Houston is one of the best digital nomad cities in the country. In fact, the city ranked on Airbnb’s list of top digital nomad destinations in 2022.

With a cost of living that falls below the national average, plus affordable housing to boot, settling in Houston is accessible without losing out on quality of life. The city offers diversity and plenty of entertainment options, so enjoying your time after work is always easy. Industrious Houston Downtown is close to public transit, Discovery Green, the George R. Brown Convention Center, and plenty of great restaurants to try.

11. Nashville, TN

Nashville is a city filled with transplants, meaning it’s pretty easy to find a community of newbies to hang out with after moving to the city. There are also plenty of coworking spaces to explore, including Industrious Downtown Nashville and all its nearby amenities, like the Capitol and Ryman Auditorium.

Music City also didn’t adopt its moniker for no reason. Heading outside and walking over to any number of bars after work will likely land you near a live show. If you need some quiet, though, you’re close to the Great Smoky Mountains and all of its hiking opportunities. Weekend camping trip, anyone?

12. Portland, OR

If you want a small-town vibe without losing out on walkability and big-city comforts (we’re looking at you, MAX Light Rail), look to Portland. You’re likely to hear the phrase “Keep Portland weird,” but you’ll find that the city embodies its famous slogan.

With small shops and quirky boutiques scattered among its abundance of restaurants and green spaces, the city oozes small-town charm despite being a major tech hub.

Known as the “Silicon Forest,” living as a digital nomad here is simple, and you won’t have to worry about meeting other remote workers — especially if you opt for a coworking space within the city, like Industrious Pioneer Square right in Downtown Portland.

Industrious is here to make your digital nomad life simpler. With locations in over 65 cities and optional access to our global network, we have all your destinations covered with one simple package

Our goal is to meet you wherever you are to deliver a better work experience — whether you’re part of a remote team or a solopreneur running things on your own. Check out our locations to find your perfect city today.
